About BFA
The Bengal Foundation Australia (BFA) is an ACNC registered Australian charitable organisation, representing the ethnolinguistic diaspora of Bengalis from South Asia (including India and Bangladesh). BFA promotes Bengali culture, art, literature, cuisine, history, heritage, and traditions.
Membership is open to anyone interested in the history and culture of the Bengal region in South Asia.
The aims of BFA (from the Constitution) are to:
- promote the advancement of Bengali culture
- provide an organisation for the discussion and dissemination of Bengal’s history, traditions, literature, and philosophy
- convene meetings and events at regular intervals
- publicise the need for the propagation and conservation of Bengali culture and traditions
- publicise the work of the Foundation
- establish and maintain a language learning school, promoting Bengali language
- record and catalogue the history of the wider Bengal region in South Asia and its connection to Australia, collecting, preserving, and exhibiting items of historical significance to the Bengal region for the benefit of the community, fostering public awareness of and interest in the shared history of Bengal and Australia going back two millennia
- promote mutual respect and tolerance between groups of people in Australia by actively countering racism and bringing widespread understanding and tolerance among all sectors of the community
